JUNCTION PARK
A flexible space for community engagement on the Arbutus Corridor
spring-time perspective looking west towards the community kitchen
LOCATED DOWN THE RAILROAD...
From the Arbutus community gardens, is a romantic pocket park with community kitchen, herb garden, and event space . Concentric rails allow for tables to move with flexible seating arrangement. The planting design encourages pollinators and human interaction, as well as enveloping the communal spaces creating visual and sound protection. The west end of the park features a pizza oven and outdoor kitchen spaces, as well as trellises. The small park is lit from above, with lighting that mimics the wires of bus terminals here in Vancouver.
The form mimics the harmonious conjunction of the community gardens, urban language, and ecology while simultaneously breaching the grid-like logic of the surrounding urban fabric.
